How I work

A calm, honest way to build software.

No mystery, and no disappearing for three months. Here's how a project runs when you work with me, and what to expect at each stage.

01How I approach it

Four things that shape every project.

01

Solve the real problem

I spend time understanding what's costing you before I propose anything. The goal is the result, not the biggest possible build.

02

Plain language, always

You won't be buried in jargon or kept behind a project manager. I explain the trade-offs clearly so you can make good decisions.

03

Small steps, visible progress

You see working software early and often, rather than a big reveal months later. That keeps the project honest and easy to steer.

04

Priced to the value

I scope each project and give you a clear figure up front, with no package tiers and no surprise invoices.

02The process

From first call to live software.

  1. 01

    Understand the problem

We start with a proper conversation about how your business works, where the friction is and what a fix is worth. There's no cost and no jargon. If I'm not the right person for the job, I'll say so.

  2. 02

    Scope and plan

I set out what to build, in what order and what it will cost. You get a clear proposal with a fixed scope for the first phase, so you know what you're committing to before any code is written.

  3. 03

    Build in the open

I build in short, visible steps and show you working software early and often. You're never left waiting months to see progress, and you can steer the direction as it takes shape.

  4. 04

    Launch and support

We roll it out carefully, get your team comfortable with it and I stay available afterwards. Most of my work comes from carrying on with clients long after launch.

03What to expect

The experience, start to finish.

  1. 01
A free first conversationA proper conversation about your business and the problem, with no cost and no pressure to go further.
  2. 02
A written proposalClear scope, timeline and a fixed price for the first phase, so you know what you're agreeing to.
  3. 03
Regular check-insShort, regular updates and working demos, rather than silence followed by a big reveal.
  4. 04
A careful launchWe roll out in a way that doesn't disrupt the business, and your team is supported through the change.
  5. 05
Someone who staysI stay available after launch to keep things running and help the software grow with you.
04Investment

Honest about cost.

Projects start from around £1,000, and most fall between £5,000 and £50,000, depending on what's involved. I price each one properly rather than selling fixed packages, because bespoke software isn't something you buy off a shelf.

You'll always have a clear figure before you commit, and a fixed price for the first phase. If a smaller, cheaper piece of work would get you most of the way, I'll say so.

Typical project range

£5k to £50k
